Condemnation of Airstrikes on Nuer Civilians by the South Sudan Terrorist Regime and Ugandan Allies

May 6, 2025

We strongly condemn the ongoing airstrikes and systematic attacks carried out by the South Sudanese genocidal regime, in collaboration with Ugandan military aircraft, against Nuer civilian populations in the Nuerland regions of Fangak and Mayom. These deliberate and indiscriminate attacks constitute war crimes, crimes against humanity, and acts of genocide that demand immediate international intervention.

Summary of Attacks

1. May 3, 2025 (4:00 AM) – The South Sudanese terrorist regime and its Ugandan allies launched a coordinated assault using Antonov bombers, gunships, and drones on the civilian town of Old Fangak. The attack indiscriminately targeted vulnerable populations, including women and children, while they slept. Among the locations bombed was the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) hospital—the only medical facility serving the greater Fangak region—resulting in the deaths of patients and severe injuries to survivors.

2. May 4, 2025 (10:00 PM) – A Ugandan-operated Antonov bomber, contracted by the South Sudanese government, conducted another airstrike on Old Fangak, injuring multiple civilians.

3. May 5, 2025 (7:00 AM) – The same Antonov returned to Old Fangak and surrounding villages, dropping multiple bombs exclusively on civilian areas, further demonstrating a deliberate pattern of war crimes.

4. May 5, 2025 (Morning) – The same aircraft carried out another bombing in New Fangak (Phom), injuring numerous civilians, predominantly children.

5. May 5, 2025 (10:00 PM) – The Antonov struck the villages of Bichulkoon and Pakan in the Fangak region, causing significant casualties, particularly among the elderly.

6. May 6, 2025 (Evening) – The Ugandan Antonov targeted the cattle camps of Kueryiek village in Mayom, deliberately attacking women, children, and livestock in what constitutes a clear act of ethnic cleansing.

These attacks violate fundamental principles of international humanitarian law, including:

  • War Crimes – Deliberate targeting of civilians and medical facilities (protected under the Geneva Conventions).

  • Crimes Against Humanity – Widespread and systematic attacks against a civilian population.

  • Acts of Genocide – Evidence of intent to destroy, in whole or in part, the Nuer ethnic group.

The repeated bombing of civilian areas, hospitals, and cattle camps demonstrates a calculated campaign of terror and ethnic cleansing by the Dinka-led South Sudanese terrorist regime and its Ugandan allies.

We urgently call upon:

  • The United Nations Security Council to mandate an immediate independent investigation into these atrocities.

  • The International Criminal Court (ICC) to open a case for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

  • The African Union (AU) and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to impose sanctions and demand accountability.

  • The United States, the European Union, and all human rights organizations to condemn these acts and take decisive action against the perpetrators.

If the international community fails to act, the Nuer people reserve the right to defend themselves against this genocide. We will not remain silent in the face of extermination.

For Nuerland and its people
